Emerging from the bucolic flatlands of the Waveney Valley, bordering counties Norfolk & Suffollk is an alternative folk singer & new kid on the block. Watkin A. Sharkey is accompanied by Chris Powell on harmonica - both fresh off their first live tour this winter. Successful dates include The John Peel Centre in Stowmarket & The Merchant’s House in Norwich.

Influenced by the 70’s alternative folk-rock era & songwriting giants such as Ralph Mctell, John Martyn & Bob Dylan, Watkin A. Sharkey is a new face to the UK folk scene.

There are alot of words to describe Watkin A. Sharkey, but I think you can whittle it down to exceptionally talented, instrumentally interesting and incredibly apt at songwriting. Clearly influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan and other classic American singer songwriters, Watkin still has his own flair. With the added bonus of Chris Powell on Harmonica, they lit up The Bedford in Balham on Tuesday night with a performance that really made you say ‘wow, this guy has got something.’ The audience were captivated by the vocals and at times a bass harmonica, which made for incredible viewing. All in all, he’s definitely one to watch, especially coming off the back of a tour. I’ll leave it by saying I can’t wait to see some music on Spotify soon!
